My brotha in House music, pointed me to the ‘Rurals’ latest album recently to review. We share a passion for Deep House, which is why he knew I’d love the album ‘Ocean’.
After hearing a couple of scrumptious tracks from the album and subsequently ‘dropping’ them in my recent set; it turned out to be one of my best sets to date. There was old and young in the crowd and everyone recognised the quality of the music on offer. It’s not often that you can please 20 and 50 year olds at the same time. Thanks Andy for making me look like a pro!
I have listened to a few Rurals mixes and have enjoyed their funk; so to hear this jazzy album was a little unexpected. I have always been very fussy with my music and for me to like an entire album is very rare.
This is my 1st review of an album and I was so hoping I could get the chance to be a little bitchy but that’s not going to happen. This album is pure class and will make any Deep House connoisseur happy to part with their hard earned cash.
When I play music like this; I feel like I am showing off. It’s so different from the commercial music being punted by the radio stations and when you have an open-minded crowd at your fingertips, like I did in my recent gig, why wouldn’t you want to show them your soul.
That’s the word that sums up this album best for me “SOUL”! Play music like this and no one will doubt you’ve got your fair share. The production is super tight and the vocals are perfectly suited to the mood the music creates.
For those of you out there like me who haven’t had too much exposure to the Rurals it’s time to get well acquainted. I know I am going to delve deeper into this Devonshire collectives past works.
