New Release: Adamski – I like it

Adamski makes his debut on Jerry Bouthier’s Continental Records.

With a musical history stretching back to the eighties, the man also known as Adam Tinley remains one of Pop’s great British eccentrics, forever fusing house, electro and new wave with catchy choruses and all around dementia. Inspired by punk ethos, he swore he’d never compromise and went off on an idiosyncratic journey galvanized by Ibiza’s original party spirit and fuelled by his acid-house anthems ‘NRG’ and ‘Killer’.
Since then his performances across the world have been complemented by a stream of releases as Adam Sky on tastemakers imprints Kitsuné, Crosstown Rebels and Exploited. Now reprising his original Adamski identity, he returns to discotheques with a vengeance and a bagful of hot dance tunes and enough pop appeal for Continental to welcome this unique character into its growing stable.

A-side ‘I Like It’ starts off discreetly but soon reveals its true identity as a certified peaktime machine, with ATTAR! (Renaud Deru, formerly of Mustang) providing a brilliant rendition that takes it to a new level. On the flip side, we see Adamski going back to his Ibiza roots with ‘Wot Happened To U’ a balearic chugger that would make longtime buddy DJ Alfredo proud. Discotexas’ Mirror People lines up to give the track a lush makeover that plays to these roots. French maestro Blackjoy rounds up the package with an inspired alternative version.

Thomas Gold debut album out 28 May 2012 (Axtone)

Thomas Gold has the Midas touch and with a debut compilation, Beatport No.1 and a string of huge remixes and tour dates, 2012 is undoubtedly his year.

My sound is progressive house music, with influences from techno, tribal and trance music. This will be the sound of my compilation, reflecting the sound of when you see me live”. Thomas Gold

DJ and Producer Thomas Gold is pretty happy, he is about to release his debut compilation on Axtone. It’s not just that either, his most recent track on the same label, ‘Sing2Me’, was a bona fide Miami big tune. It first appeared in DMC’s Miami Buzz Chart and then The Swedish House Mafia played it exclusively when they sat in for Pete Tong on his Essential Selection. It then went straight to the Beatport No 1 spot on release. Given all of the above along with the fact that Thomas’s stadium touring and remixing schedules have been immense of late, it really seems Thomas has the Midas touch and this is his year.

Thomas has been on a steady ascension over the last few years whilst developing his powerful and unique progressive meets tech meets main room house sound. It was tracks like ‘Marsch Marsch’ on Toolroom, ‘Alive’ and ‘Eyes Wide Open’ in collaboration with Dirty South on Phazing that originally shined a spotlight on him. However it was ‘AGORa’ with Steve Angello on Size that helped cement his status as a world class producer.  It wasn’t long before he was counting DJs as varied as Tiesto, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Laidback Luke and of course the guys from Swedish House Mafia as fans of his productions.

Then there has been his remixes, which are all heavy duty reworks with some of dance and pop music biggest stars. Thomas’s first major remix was Fatboy Slim’s ‘Star 69’ which had instant impact, then he went onto re-rub two of pop music’s biggest female talents with Lady Gaga’s ‘Judas’ and Adele ‘Set Fire to The Rain’, the latter of which currently boasts over 13million views on Youtube. To top it all, Thomas’ newest remix is of the super cool Swedish indie pop legends Miike Snow ‘The Wave’.

So it is no surprise that he has now been invited to present the first in a new compilation series on Axwell’s respected imprint. With Thomas given carte blanche on the track list you can expect to hear a heavy mix of Thomas’s own releases, remixes & re-edits both from the vault & fresh from the studio. There will also be Axtone classics & exclusive content from Thomas’s own record bag and USB stick (his technology of choice!)

I did a couple of exclusive original tracks which will go on the compilation only. Speaking about names, there will be “Fanfare”, “The Beginning” and “Circles”… I’m very excited about that as I’ve been testing those tracks in some of my live DJ sets and they got great responses!”

The album also features tracks from some of Dance music premier house producers including Moguai, Dirty South, Hard Rock Sofa, Michael Calfan, Henrik B, Adrian Lux, Norman Doray, Sander Van Doorn, Steve Aoki, Digitalism, David Guetta and Afrojack.

‘Axtone Presents Thomas Gold’ will be accompanied by an extensive international tour with iTunes exclusive released on May 28th and physical on June 4th.

Richie Hawtin presents ENTER. at Space – Ibiza

Richie Hawtin confirms first solo IBIZA residency with the introduction of ENTER. at Space on Thursdays.

“ENTER. will be a point of entry into new experiences: from new music and DJs through to technology and the Sake we introduce people to” – Richie Hawtin

RICHIE HAWTIN has confirmed he will launch his first solo residency on the island of Ibiza – with the introduction of his new visionary ENTER. concept. Hawtin will take over Thursday nights at the award-winning club Space in Playa d’en Bossa for 12 weeks (July 5 to September 20), curating four rooms built on the principles of music, sake, technology and experience. Hawtin and ENTER. will also collaborate with underground night Kehakuma to form ENTER.Kehakuma on the famed Space Terrace – a night already established as an incubator of emerging and defining electronic talent.

Hawtin has a strong history with the island of Ibiza thanks to his long-term contribution and association with Sven Väth’s Cocoon creation at Amnesia. Hawtin feels now is the time to make his own statement on the island, to provide a new platform for the artists and music he supports, and to lead Ibiza into the island’s next phase of development and innovation.

Richie Hawtin states: “After an incredible and life-defining relationship with Sven and the Cocoon family on the island, I felt the time was right to develop my own vision on what an Ibiza experience might be. Ibiza is a destination for people from all walks of life looking to escape and celebrate. This year we will give people an entry into a world that connects many of the things that I love: music, technology, Japanese sake, art, entertainment and design. As Ibiza is a crossroads of people from all over the world, ENTER. will be a crossroads of experiences!”

ENTER. is based on the following principles:

MUSIC.

Hawtin will play each and every week from the center of the ENTER. experience, within an augmented version of Space’s main room surrounded by new structural lighting installations and technologies. Hawtin will curate the entire ENTER. line-up featuring M-NUS artists, friends, collaborators and like-minded individuals on each floor including ENTER.Sake and ENTER.Air (Space’s rooftop terrace). Hawtin will collaborate with Space on the line-ups for the main Terrace now dubbed ENTER.Kehakuma – bringing his own selection of artists to an already established hotbed of emerging electronic talent.

SAKE.

ENTER.Sake is the island’s first true Sake Bar experience – an intimate Japanese inspired room with surprise DJ sets from major guests starting each Thursday at 10pm. For the first time, the official pre-party is in the actual club itself. Hawtin, himself a trained Sake sommelier and a huge fan of Japanese culture, is personally importing the Sake from Japan, recruiting the staff and working with renowned mixologist on the special Japanese Sake & Shochu based cocktail menu. It has been said of Hawtin, “to truly understand this man, you need to understand his love and obsession with Japan”.

TECHNOLOGY.

Each room within the ENTER. concept will be touched by technology; from live Internet feeds, to visualizations of music & sound, to the interactive installations of the transformed Sunset Terrace – now titled, ENTER.Interakt. This will be a new sensory experience beyond music involving cutting edge technologies and ideas.

EXPERIENCE.

Richie Hawtin states:

“As electronic music continues to develop around the world it becomes more important to invite people into its very core, where music, technology and ideas interplay to create unique and wonderful new worlds. Ibiza is the perfect place to further explore my event concepts that have been developing since the early Warehouse parties I threw in Detroit and more recently with CONTAKT & Plastikman Live. It is my hope that by combining many different elements together I can heighten the experience of the audience and place a significant memory into their subconscious. Ibiza is the perfect location for continuing this long-term experiment and ambition of mine.”

ENTER.FACTS

ENTER. will take place every Thursday from July 5 to September 20
ENTER. will be promoted by Hawtin and his M-NUS team in collaboration with Space.
ENTER.Sake will see the launch of the island’s first dedicated Sake bar.
ENTER.Kehakuma will see Hawtin collaborate with Space’s underground night Kehakuma will continue in its own right before and after ENTER.’s 12 dates.
ENTER. pre-party will take place weekly at Space from 10pm with big guests.

New Release: Vinny Da Vinci – House Afrika – Deep House Sounds 9

Always the year’s definitive round-up of all that’s deep and soulful in dance music and now in its ninth incarnation. Deep House Sounds’ is back. And, as always, quality is the order of the day.

The mix is collated and executed with precision by one of the most esteemed DJs on the SA scene, Vinny Da Vinci, who has once again found and blended up the finest house tracks doing the rounds right now. And he’s found plenty from names that will be familiar to local crowds because of their recent pilgrimages to these shores.

They include British beatsmith Atjazz (who’s featured twice), his compatriot Charles Webster and newer gun QB Smith. Also making an appearance are Spiritchaser, who turn in a remix of Jask featuring Josie – a cut that may just have the same appeal as their massive “These Tears”, THE tune of 2011 and originally featured on the last volume in this essential line. Look out for their artist album on House Afrika later this year!

Joining the contingent of international visitors are Detroit’s Alton Miller, who gets the remix treatment from German rhythm ace Andre Lodemann. The 12-song track list also has contributions from Chicago legend Glenn Underground, seminal house singer Stephanie Cooke, a coming together of garage legends Karizma and DJ Spinna, Joshua Iz, France’s Art Of Tones and a huge anthem from Gregory Porter remixed by Opolopo.

Vinny’s selection skills are matched by his mix, which is as tight as ever, but which also strings these disparate but smooth sounds into a dance floor story. And it’s undoubtedly one of the best stories house-heads will hear all year. The journey continues…

New Release: Deniz Kurtel – ‘The Way We Live’

Record Label: Wolf + Lamb

Release Date: 16 July 2012

Deniz Kurtel is often mistaken for a man – perhaps because she has the balls to once again buck the trend in current underground dance music. Effortlessly weaving entirely new sub-genres, while daring to convey its fragility and combining it with visual art. In fact, she spends her time with men tirelessly touring nightclubs within a culture dominated by them, but this petite girl from Turkey goes beyond where men dare to go on her second album, ‘The Way We Live’, on her home label, Wolf + Lamb.

One year after her debut appeared on leading label Crosstown Rebels, and less than three since she tried production for the first time, Deniz Kurtel creates another project that´s stylistically novel to her last. As on her debut, ‘Music Watching Over Me’, she isn’t afraid to be powerful but in ‘The Way We Live’ she masters a new dexterity, conquering stillness and rich rhythms and becoming yet more fascinating. When discussing her debut album Kurtel says that she wants to “constantly grow and evolve, and make music that excites her, hoping it excites others too.” Kurtel turns house on its head with a sultry unhurried approach more in line with a hip hop pacing that enriches the sound of tomorrow, bringing attitude back to electronic music.

“With the ability to generate a sound and a light with the same key, I wanted to facilitate a deeper connection with the basic senses of the participants while also engaging their sense of creativity,” said Kurtel of The Introspectacular. The piece will be exhibited in twelve cities across America at outside galleries and public spaces alongside her club tour.

For her second album she assembles the Marcy All Stars, a loose collective term that encompasses her male muses, friends, partners and co-conspirers. The term comes from the aforementioned Marcy hotel in Williamsburg New York – a residence-come-nightclub-come-creative-space that gave Nicolas Jaar his first gig, inspired a multitude of collaborations and reshaped the sound of house music as we know it.

This approach of collaboration is typical of the Wolf + Lamb label. A close knit yet loosely woven family collective much akin to the Wild Bunch (the early Massive Attack) or Soul II Soul, their visions are explored and shaped through a fluid, dynamic and supportive experience. ‘The Way We Live’ features one half of cult dance outfit Art Department’s Kenny Glasgow, whose melancholic ‘Don’t Wanna Be’ is a heart warming highlight. The title track was produced together with Gadi Mizrahi (the lamb of the duo). Appearances from America’s newest house music heroes Soul Clap feature alongside underground hotly tipped producers such as Tanner Ross, San Francisco’s Pillow Talk and the young Brown university graduates, Voices of Black on the Prince like funk of ‘Thunder Clap’. Thus ‘The Way We Live’ forms a colourful dot to dot sketch of the evolving Wolf + lamb family.

Tracklist:

2. YOU KNOW IT’S TRUE with Gadi Mizrahi

Samsung has a strong brand presence, and many of the creative and innovative aspects that the company provides in its technologies will be mirrored in this afterparty. The DLI main hall will be labelled the “Supercharged Dance Floor” – this floor will have a more commercial feel, with an electronic edge.  Another highlight this year is the “Enchanted Galaxy Dance Floor”, which will feature some of the country’s most talented trance DJs.

VIP Deluxe is a twofold offering: a cosy dance floor with top local artists and a relaxed indoor/outdoor chill environment. Patrons can lounge around low top tables, enjoying hubblies whilst watching the mystical enchanted floor in the background. All beers and ciders are free to VIP Deluxe ticket holders in this area.

New Release: Positive Merge – Closing Of The Season (Monochrome Audio)

This release is a straight classic for the special playboy performers looking to shake that Euro winter off.

“Titan” (Original mix) is for serious techno bombers. ”Untouchable” is turmoil work at it best. This is a made in the trenches track and should be played loud and proud.

“Kaleidoscope” is really a little like, that a super trip of 3x the amount of acid bass-line, pitch and sound deception. Real out of control designed heart-beat techno.

Positive Merge (Aka Andrey Lanovoy) is talented Ukrainian techno producer, inspired by minimal fine sounds with light effects of minimal techno and crazy dark bass with groovy loops of European techno.

BOOM! An environmentally sustainable festival

It’s 2012 and they’re building the most sustainable festival in the history of the Boom. It takes a bunch of crazy adventurers to do it over the years and come from all over the world to experience it, but that’s exactly what drives the spirit of the Boom: pure adventure!

Boom is one ARTivist event and is being sculpted like a work of art that demonstrates the infinite possibilities of sustainable survival.

As a result, the meticulous production of the Boom pivots around an intense environmental program, which ultimately aims to take the entire festival completely off the grid. However, an intelligent understanding of the environment and its location is critical to the festival’s permaculture and environmental program, which is based on the context of a bioregional framework.

The Location

The festival takes place in Idanha-a-Nova, Portugal, situated within the Geopark Meseta Meridional – a bioregional area containing a complex eco-system of its own soils, landforms, watersheds, climates as well as native plants and animals.

BOOM OFF THE GRID: A new eco-project 2012

Taking one giant leap towards this goal, this year, Boom takes both its Healing and Sacred Fire areas completely off grid – that’s 25 percent of the entire festival. We are implementing more solar and wind energies all around the Boom 2012.

THE BOOM LAB: Going deeper with the Sun

Launched in 2010, the Boom Lab built five photovoltaic stations – a move that helped bring the festival even closer to becoming independent of the mainstream electrical matrix. [link]

WATER: Every Drop Counts

Boom’s system for recycling water has been in place since 2008 and is based on plants, bioremediation and evapotranspiration. The 2010 edition saw the launch of the STAR water treatment unit, based on bio-remediation and evapotranspiration, treating 100 percent of all waste water at Boom. A total of 5.5 million litres of wastewater was treated. [link]

ECO-ART: The beauty of nature

The power of art is most profound when created with nature. Vast gardens become works of art as environ-artists work with natural materials, demonstrating sustainable and creative ways of connecting with nature.

Waste management

The Boom Ecoteam comprises a total of 150 volunteers that collect all the waste and recyclables on site. The team works around the clock collecting rubbish for the waste conversion facility, which compacts everything to send to the municipal system. There is also a system in place to recycle compost organics. They use composting toilets – the cleanest most odour-free toilets to be found at a festival of this scale. They use no water and no chemicals. Built from scratch on site, they generated 70,000 litres of organic, high quality liquid fertilizer for agricultural production.

BIO-CONSTRUCTION: A Boom passion

All structures across the site built using sustainable materials including adobe, cane, stone, bamboo and straw-bale.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT: The Boom Bus

In 2010, 3,500 people travelled to Boom on the Boom Bus from Lisbon and Madrid. We estimate that by counting an average of three people per car, we have prevented some 1,150 cars from driving into to the Boom – therefore contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions.

LOCALISM, FAIR TRADE & BIOREGIONALISM

Basics such as fruit, vegetables, animal products, olive oil, water, local beer (made from natural ingredients) and materials for building and construction, are locally sourced. Boom supports fair trade, opting for local brands and small companies.

AWARDS: CONSEQUENCE OF A COMMITMENT

Boom’s dedication to creating an environmentally sustainable festival has reaped the following awards:

• Greener Festival Award in 2008 and 2010 (for Outstanding Prize)

• European Festival Award 2010 (for Green ‘n’ Clean Festival of the Year)

Permaculture principles drive the Boom, allowing choices that enhance the ecology, economy and culture of the place while serving as a solution to the temporary resource shortfalls that many of us have experienced around the world.

PARTICIPATE AT BOOM

Until 3 July you can get your 3rd Phase Boom ticket. There are several pricing systems:

- Regular Pricing

- Social Pricing

- Developing Country

- Free Boom Ticket (Mexico, Guatemala)

New Release: Chelonis R. Jones – The Prison Buffet

Chelonis R. Jones is a lo-fi legend, a straight-talking raconteur with his eye on the underbelly of society. He releases The Prison Buffet, an album that stitches together a torrent of emotions using an undeniable lyrical and vocal talent for thread.

The Prison Buffet is Jones’ fourth full-length album and his second release on Systematic Recordings. The buffet metaphor is perfect, with each track bringing a different style to the party. For example, accessible, laid-back tune The Incredible Sulk is pensive and smooth with its tongue-in-cheek lyrics and title. It stands in stark contrast to punk-infused, abrasive track The Irritant (Brain Damage Club). It’s like having the blancmange right there on the table next to the lamb vindaloo.

Standout tracks include Pinwheel Piaf and Love Needs An Invoice, with both demonstrating Jones’ heightened awareness of the mechanics of great song writing. The latter is a slow build with some neatly controlled dynamics, an electro-pop delight that is just rough enough around the edges. It’s delicious.

Hailing from NYC, Chelonis R. Jones fled to Europe to pursue his dreams of becoming an artist. His unique style has led him collaborate with artists such as M.A.N.D.Y, Booka Shade, Spektre, Oliver Huntemann and Röyksopp. Fans of these artists will find The Prison Buffet an incredibly rewarding listen thanks to its dance music roots.

Jones’ unique approach has also ensured a packed touring schedule and something of a cult following on both sides of the Atlantic.

A multi-disciplinary practitioner whose own artwork often accompanies his musical releases, his pared down composition choices reward closer listening with lyrics that bring to mind Brooklyn band The Hold Steady. In Non (Sense)?, he speaks of an L.A where ‘avoiding actors is like avoiding palm trees,’ and an earth where ‘no woman…has caught the hell that black women have caught.’ Race is undoubtedly a prevalent theme in his work, and his spoken words have weight as they slide across a warm but gnarled string melody.

On The Prison Buffet Chelonis R. Jones wants you to build emotional snacks out of your favourite tracks. Digest it all in one go and its sparse approach means you won’t be left feeling bloated. Instead, you will be craving more. His new material feels even more raw and personal than his previous offerings, a gamble that has unequivocally paid off on this album.

New EP Release: PBR Streetgang – “At Dez” (2020Vision)

PBR Streetgang have a long lasting relationship with 2020Vision, through the various record shops, dancefloors and after parties shared in Leeds over the years.  They have also remixed tracks from the last two Crazy P albums for the label.

As residents at We Love at Space Ibiza they’ve carved a niche as a classy DJ double act as adept at backroom disco sets or terrace filling house tear ups, all delivered with a smattering of funk and good times.

Their debut 2020 EP follows up their ‘Downstroke’ release for Hot Creations, a huge throbbing low-slung houser indebted to Mike Dunn’s classic ‘God Made Me Phunky’.

This EP continues the vibe of this last release, all tracks drip with funk in a sleazy house flavour with a definite disco edge.  Much like the PBR DJ sound they have now found a trademark production style that utilises their love of a body shaking bassline, crisp beats, quirky samples and a unifying groove.

Christina Ryat is the latest LA producer to be brought under Flying Lotus’ wing

This June, Brainfeeder will release Totem, the next album from the West Coast artist Ryat. Christina Ryat (pronounced “riot”) is a producer, multi-instrumentalist and singer from Philadelphia, now based in LA, just like the majority of the Brainfeeder stable. She first appeared last year with Avant Gold, a self-released, digital-only album that established a boldly experimental sound, led by her own distinct vocals. Totem continues on the same tip. According to a press release, every song on the album “represents a different spirit animal, each with a message translated through [her] experimentation with unusual sound signatures.” You can stream or download the third track, Howl.

Details have emerged for Sound Signature Sounds Vol. 2, a new collection of mostly old tracks by Detroit luminary Theo Parrish

The compilation comes twelve years after the first Sound Signature Sounds, which was reissued in 2008. It focuses mostly on Parrish’s catalogue throughout the ’00s, culling tracks from his own 12-inches on his boutique label, Sound Signature, though there’s also one Three Chairs tune from ’97 (Rain for Jimmy) and one previously unreleased song called Didn’t Pay Dues. Sound Signature Sounds Vol. 2 will be available only as a limited edition CD. It’s expected to have shipped on 20 April.

Red Bull Beat Battle 2011 champions, Artistic Intelligence, ready to defend their title

Eight of SA’s best dance crews to ‘fight’ it out for Red Bull Beat Battle title

Through an intense qualification process with over 100 crews auditioning in six cities across South Africa, eight crews have been hand-picked to take part in this year’s Red Bull Beat Battle.

As a judge and well-respected Bboy Gerald Witbooi, aka Vouks Nojokes, was impressed with the talent they encountered on their search to find the best crews across a multitude of dance genres.

He remarked: “I was most impressed by the Pretoria crews. We expected some amazing crews to come out of Jo’burg but Pretoria really stepped up to the plate and made deciding who should go through tough for us. That said, the talent in Bloemfontein surprised me most. In a year or two crews from there will be a force to reckon with.”

2011’s winners Artistic Intelligence are all set to defend their title. The crew’s Tumi Tladi remarked: “We’re excited to be competing again this year and go up against such talented crews because the experience helps us grow as a crew. The best part of Red Bull Beat Battle is the crowd’s energy and that’s what we’re really looking forward to.”

Battling it out in the ultimate dance off at Bassline, Johannesburg on May 26 are: Artistic Intelligence (Hip Hop), Hlaks (Pantsula), Ninja Turtles (Breaking), Phly Nation (Hip Hop), Real Actions Junior (Pantsula) , Reptilez (Hip Hop), Soulistic Fusion (Sbhujwa) and V.I.N.T.AG.E. (Freestyle). Their varying dance styles, techniques and personalities will make for another thrilling edition of the competition and the crew with the crowd on their side will definitely have the upper hand.

Red Bull Beat Battle puts dance crews from various backgrounds and genres against each other in a one of a kind battle. Off the back of an incredibly successful competition in 2011, Red Bull Beat Battle is back in 2012.

The eight crews are given the opportunity to work with some of the best choreographers and producers in the business in the lead up to the final on 26 May 2012 at Bassline in Johannesburg’s Newtown District.

In the final they’ll be judged on their style, creativity and overall crowd reaction. The crew with the best score will be crowned the 2012 Red Bull Beat Battle champions.

As champions they’ll have the opportunity to travel the country, perform at various events, host workshops and get the chance to defend their title in 2013.

Alex Niggemann to release debut album “Paranoid Funk” through Poker Flat Recordings

Berlin‘s Alex Niggemann is one of an exciting new run of artists to arrive on Steve Bug‘s established Poker Flat, bringing fresh, high quality house music to the world‘s dance floors. Described in his biography as persistent and straight-ahead‘ his debut full-length album, marks the important next chapter in this dedicated producer‘s development.

The confident, retro-meets-nu-school grooves of Niggemann‘s 11-track album ‘Paranoid Funk‘ fit perfectly to the man behind the beats. A classically trained pianist who gave up the ivory keys for a more technological dream, the young 26 year old producer joins a new wave of artists enjoying a steady resurgence in deep, groovy and indeed sexy house music. It’s a mature, well considered achievement that will no-doubt find favor with club DJs and avid home listeners alike.

In his own words Alex set out to “create an album which is different to typical club or listening albums…. where songs fit together (even when having different styles) without being too similar“.

He also goes on to say that it‘s very much about “showing the full range of what I‘m able to, what I have done, what I like and what I will do.“

It’s not hard to believe him, as it’s a rather eclectic 4/4 album packed with groovy, feel-good house that still offers more hypnotic and darker moments along the way. Niggemann plays with tempos and vibes, moving freely and easily from the future-classic of ‘Don‘t Wait‘ with its light-hearted and warm Chicago vibes, to super-deep and addictive midnight cuts like ‘The Sweetest Thing‘ and the 118 bpm ‘Curious‘ – a personal tribute to a ‘techno hymn”

Alex simply lives and breathes his music, something that’s clear to both see and hear.

Long-standing Poker Flat affiliate and all round underground star Florian Schirmacher joins Niggemann on the darker, club-ready ‘Easy Love‘ that could easily form the soundtrack to one of Berlin‘s notorious Sunday morning raves, while the stripped ‘That Is…!‘ sails smoothly through jacking modern house, punctuated by detailed fills and instinctive arrangements.

Niggemann‘s love for classic 80s and 90s beats is clearly represented with tracks like the boogie-inspired ‘Parentless Child‘ freaking and tweaking around night-drive synths and Italo moments, however it’s clear the producer‘s head is aimed straight towards the future with super-sexy cuts like ‘Street Therapy‘ proving he can indeed hold it down with the big boys and rock it with subtle, hypnotic and underground precision. So there‘s a pleasing mixture of dancefloor weapons and more introspective home toe-tappers. Alex wanted the album to be this way, reflecting the social aspect of his music and its function not only to make you dance, but to form the soundtrack to our everyday lives.

As the versatile and solidly produced long-player draws towards its conclusion, the moving ‘Lovers‘ featuring vocalist Daniel John Riedl not only tugs on the heart strings, but shows off Niggemann‘s piano and songwriting skills in a blissful ode to dance music culture today.

International Music Summit

With just three weeks to go until this year’s Ibiza International Music Summit opens for business, things are really starting to heat up, as team IMS now reveals the full week of events, parties and openings to make sure the 2012 edition will be the biggest and best yet.

Where in previous years the focus has been on both the main event (the three-day music summit at the 5 star Ibiza Gran Hotel) and the Friday night IMS Grand Finale Festival at D´alt Vila, last year saw the introduction of David Guetta also co-hosting Thursday night at D´alt Vila and this year it´s no different. The unstoppable global force that is Mr Guetta returns (with friends!) to throw a huge open-air free party on the Thursday again, but that´s not all, there´s now a full week of IMS events/parties spread across Pacha, Blu Marlin, Grial, Es Vive, and new venue Bubbles, as well as the legendary opening parties at Space and Ushuaia. The IMS Opening Party also takes place at Pacha with the first ever set from Chase & Status in the club. They will be followed by Porter Robinson – the hottest new name to emerge from the American EDM scene, fresh from his American college tour with Tiesto.

With the IMS Grand Finale Festival still very much the jewel in the IMS crown (Friday 25th May), this year´s line-up features Carl Cox, Loco Dice, Pete Tong, Seth Troxler, DJ E.A.S.E, Azari & III (live) and Disclosure (live) – all set in the heart of Ibiza Old Town, with nothing but the stars above you, looking over the Balearic Sea.

Needless to say, you do not want to miss this.

Access:

With all these events open to the general public, it´s also worth noting that IMS Delegates get free access to every IMS event throughout the week, as well as the three day summit at the Ibiza Gran Hotel.

New SMG Single: Grube & Hovsepian Ft. Tiffany Johnston ‘Venom’

A distance of several thousand miles hasn’t stopped the combined talents of Miami’s Tim Grube and Los Angeleno Mike Hovsepian developing a substantial following in whip-quick time. Grube & Hovsepian are back this month with their first song-based outing – the beautiful ‘Venom’, which features the siren-like vocal allure of Tiffany Johnston.

Since becoming part of Markus Schulz’s management project Schulz Music Group, Tim and Mike have performed the biggest gigs to date, including the release party for the ‘Los Angeles ’12′ album at Avalon and the WMC closing party at Space in Miami. A standout highlight in both of those sets was this precision cut slice of progressive trance.

Since debuting on Markus Schulz’s Global DJ Broadcast show back in March, it has quickly become a fan favourite and subsequently turned into one of Coldharbour’s most anticipated releases of the year to date. On the mix are 4-man production collective Miami Life, who have given the track a bouncier edge, combined it with a tougher, grooving feel.

This coast-to-coast musical alliance continues to advance at speed. ‘Venom’ strikes on May 7th!
