BPM MAYJUNE 08
Cape Town's hottest new import is French-Italian DJ and producer, Tony Finger. After 20 years spinning records around the world, Tony has picked the Mother City as base camp, bringing his blend of cool electro and sexy continental vocal pumping house to thrill local party people.
Boasting residencies in London, Paris, Moscow, Lisbon and Eastern Europe, Tony has recently formed his own label - Touch It Records - and his first release is a double CD called No Pop Music.
We chatted …
BPM: Cape Town is indeed a beautiful city to live but isn't it a bit far for international gigging?
Tony: I used to live in London before moving to Cape Town. I first came here on holidays, and then fell in love with the city and the vibe. I admit that things have been cut off for a little while (gigs wise), but I needed to clear things out (you need a break in life to regenerate your soul and this city is the perfect place) and I'm ready to strike back, very soon, thanks to more productions and my label. I do miss Europe.

BPM: You're Italian right?
Tony: Si, si, I am. Italian but with a French accent, heh heh.

BPM: Your fondest DJ memory?
Tony: Ekaterimburg (Russia), in a hockey stadium, covered with rubber mats, huge sound system and thousands of people dancing like crazy to my music … a bit cold, but warmed up by their love for the music. I even had an aspiring DJ'ette ask for an autograph. I gave her one of my vinyl's; she was so happy, she held it close to her chest, which was so cute.

BPM: So you founded Touch It Records in 2006 and your first CD release is out. Tell us a bit about the album.
Tony: Starting my own label was always one of my dreams and thanks to today's digital technology things are a bit easier to do. It was the easiest (well, not that easy) way to get my music out there without dealing with some silly A&R from another label. So, here we go, the adventure has started and I'm quite pleased with it. The album was a natural thing that had to happen, as it was my concept to release an artist album (with new and unreleased tracks that can also be played by a DJ in a club) plus a mixed compilation with some good rocking house/electro tracks. Two in one. This is not the usual mixed compilation that DJs put out, it's a concept, it's my life! So, I hope that everybody will enjoy it and will appreciate it as much as I do.
